City considers borrowing for street repairs

Kilgore City Council is expected to agree Tuesday to borrow money to pay for two street construction projects.

On the agenda for next week's meeting is consideration of issuing certificates of obligation - a form of bond that does not require voter approval - for the replacement of Maverick Drive as well as traffic flow, maintenance and drainage projects on Chandler Street. Maverick is the main street through North Kilgore Industrial Park. Chandler serves the elementary, middle and intermediate school campuses.

Council is also to further discuss and receive guidance on options for development of Remington Estates Phase III. The subdivision is south of Maude Laird Middle School.

Council is expected to possibly approve:

- Purchase of 2008 Ford F-550 Regular Cab 4x4 brush truck in the amount of $80,124 through Buy- Board;

- Sale of sheriff 's tax property, located at the northeast corner of the intersection of Tucker Road and State Highway 31 (1200 Block of East SH 31), to Olga Espinoza;

- Adopt Ordinance 1376 adopting a municipal boundary map and providing that the electronic version is the official map of the city boundary;

- An agreement between 2TURNITON and the City of Kilgore for web site access to allow consumer access to a directory of utility service providers;

- The adoption of City of Kilgore Engineering Design Manual; and

- The adoption of Resolution 08-06 requesting East Texas Medical Center to contract with United Health Care Option PPO to allow network access through texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Employee Benefits Pool.

Discussion items include options for road maintenance for Dogwood Estates and amendment to the Kilgore Code of Ordinance Chapter 14 - Manufactured Home Parks. Dogwood Estates is in rural Smith County and its through street provides access to a city water well.

Kilgore City Council meets 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11 at Kilgore City Hall in Council Chambers.
