Driving classes being offered at KISD A-1 Driving Academy, in conjunction with Kilgore High School, will offer a driver's education course on the KHS campus starting March 24. Coach Randy Gaddis handle the scheduling of the course which will run from 4:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The program will consist of 32 hours of classroom instruction and 14 hours of in-the-car instruction. The cost of instruction for the classroom portion is $125. If taken together, both the classroom and driving will cost $350. Those taking only the classroom portion will receive their beginner permit after the 32 hours are complete. If taking both, the student will receive their permit after the third day of class. Gaddis said all permits have to be held for six months before a regular license can be issued unless the student turns 18 before the six months is up. With a permit, a student can drive when accompanied by a licensed driver 21 years of age or older in the front seat. Gaddis said students will need to provide an original social security card, a original birth certificate and verification of enrollment. All other forms will be provided during the course. This class is limited in size and the student must sign up in the KHS office. |
