KC, SFASU sign articulation agreement Bill Holda, president of Kilgore College, announced Friday that he will sign an articulation agreement Tuesday morning that will guarantee the transfer of all KC music majors' piano credits to Stephen F. Austin State University. The agreement will be signed by Holda and SFASU President Baker Patillo at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. "Some of the music majors transferring from Kilgore College to Stephen F. Austin State University have encountered difficulties in equating piano credits here as opposed to those at SFASU," said Jeanne Johnson, KC music and dance department chair. Johnson said one of KC's music majors that transferred to SFASU ended up being required to take additional piano courses despite having completed equivalent classes at KC. "When I was informed of this inequity by the student, I contacted Ron Anderson, head of the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University," Johnson said. "Ron dispatched the new head of class piano at SFASU, Mr. Mario Ajero, to our campus to take a look at our class piano instruction and evaluate the level of that instruction here at KC." Ajero met with part time KC piano instructor Cathy Waggoner and observed her classes. He recommended the formulation of an articulation agreement between the two schools to go into effect immediately. According to Johnson, who helped write the wording of the agreement, it is "designed to protect the interests of transferring students as they move from one institution of higher learning to another." |
