Identity theft and how to prevent it was on tap at Rotary Club

Dan Roberson, a specialist in helping prevent identity theft, was the guest speaker for the Kilgore Rotary Club. Roberson presented a program on the different types of identity theft and gave some information on how to prevent it.

He listed some of the types of identity theft as medical, credit card, driver's license as well as a few others and gave statistics on them. He told about how many millions and billions of dollars are stolen each year through identity theft, and he even told how some countries teach classes in how to steal identities.

Roberson then gave some information on how to protect yourself from identity theft. He also gave some insight on the people who are caught each and every day in this type of crime.

In taking questions from the crowd, he told that any piece of information you release can make you a target for identity theft.

In other Rotary news, David Castles, Steve Brown, Tom Sartor and Jerry Camp attended the Foundation Dinner held in Texarkana last weekend. The group was joined by Paul and Pam Broughton, who now live in Arkansas.

The Kilgore Rotary Club was honored with two banners, one for giving the highest per capita amount in the District and one for having 100 percent member participation in EREY.

Dr. Charles Whiteside, who was supposed to attend the session but could not due to illness, received the White Hat Society Award in appreciation for his significant pledge to the Rotary Foundation.

In other news, it was announced that the Rotary Golf Tournament is Monday, May 5 at Meadowbrook Country Club. The two-person potpourri tournament costs $75 per person and that includes green fees, carts, lunch and drinks on the course. Hole sponsorships are $100.00.

This next week, Pam De- Ceault will present a program on Hettie Green, The Witch of Wall Street."

The Kilgore Rotary Club meets each Wednesday at noon in the Meadowbrook Country Club. Guests are always welcome.
