A musical to remember On Broadway!, a dazzling cavalcade of song and dance from the musical theater, comes to the stage of Dodson Auditorium Thursday night, March 6, to close the 2007-08 season of the Kilgore Community Concert Association. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. Produced by Matt Davenport, the show is a fast-moving review of highlights from past and present Broadway hits. Live musicians support a cast of eight energetic singers and dancers as they present delightful memories in song and dance. Act one features songs and dance from early Broadway musicals such as A Chorus Line, Guys and Dolls, 42nd Street, West Side Story, the Sound of Music, Oklahoma, Annie Get Your Gun, and more. Act Two celebrates today's popular musicals with selections from Wicked, Mamma Mia, Beauty and the Beast, Hairspray, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and Cats. Davenport's productions are characterized by brilliant choreography, dynamic musical arrangements, and a virtual parade of costumes, a grand staircase is the centerpiece of the colorful set for the performance. Other Davenprot productions which Community Concerts have presented in prior seasons include I Get a Kick out of Cole, Ropin' the West, and American Rhapsody. Admission to the concert is by Community Concert Association membership only. No individual tickets will be sold. However, new members of the association who join by March 6 will receive free admission to On Broadway! as a bonus for enrolling. Memberships will be available at the door prior to curtain time for $35 for adults and $80 for family memberships. The 2008-09 season will feature five concerts, including The Vocal Majority, a 100- voice men's chorus; baritone Daniel Nordic; guitarist Pavlo, whose Mediterranean style of music is supported by four other musicians; classical pianist Jade Simmons; and Pianafiddle, a duo of longtime jazz and ragtime pianist Lynn Wright and classical violinist Adam DeGraff who have teamed up to present a unique program of improvised songs ranging from bluegrass to classical. |
