MIDDLE SCHOOL’S HISTORICAL SURVEY

By NICK SOSA AND JOSH DANIEL

NICK SOSA AND
JOSH DANIEL

As we walked up the stairs in the Longhorn Drug, we realized we had a lot of history to cover.

The first thing we saw was where the dentist office was. When we saw it, Harry Crouse, the owner of the building, told us that the building and everything in it was built in 1931 by Roy H. Laird, who was also the first owner of the building, not the corporation.

Next we walked by an office with an old typewriter and whiskey bottles with champagne
glasses on top of a safe.

Longhorn Drug as it appears today,
construction going on there.

After that Harry took us to the Kilgore Reading Clinic, which was still in Longhorn Drug. Harry also told us about and showed us the foundation of the Longhorn Drug, which we could see was
made of concrete blocks.

Last Harry had told us about the roofing which was tar and gravel. Overall we knew that the condition was deteriorated. It just goes to show that the more the building goes through time, the older it is, the more history it has behind it.

the building shut down.
