MLMS track team starts strong
MAUDE LAIRD OPENS TRACK SEASON

Maude Laird Middle School held its first track meet on Monday and even though the meet was cut short because of weather, the Bulldogs had a fine showing.

Joe Guillory, head track coach for MLMS said when the meet was called because of the weather, MLMS had 121 points, just behind meet-leader Hallsville.

In the boys division, Hector Peralez took third in the 2400 meter run, John Dale finished first in the discus with a throw of 122 feet and third in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, Chris Paige took second in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches, in the triple jump Shawn Williams took third with an effort of 33 feet, 7 inches, Ladarius Anthony finished first in the long jump at 20 feet, 3 and a half inches, in the 4 X 100 meter relay, Matthew Dickey, Ladarius Anthony, Shawn Williams and Kaleb Brisindine finished second and they also finished second in the 4 X 200 meter relay, in the 800 meter run, Jose Barron finished first, in the 110 meter hurdles, Kameron Bailey finished second, in the 100 meter dash, Jonathan Murphy finished second, Ladarius Anthony finished third and Justin Jordan finished sixth and in the 400 meter dash, Chris Page finished third.

Ginger Hale, girls track coach, said the girls finished fourth over-all when the meet was called.

Andrea Butler finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 62 feet, 3 inches, Jessica Colbert finished first in the shot put with a toss of 36 feet, 5 inches, in the 400 meter dash, MyKea Canada finished first with a time of 1 minute, three seconds and Brianna Lewis finished sixth with a time of one minute, 12 seconds, LaQuasha Sheffield finished sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.6 seconds, Dondra Halton finished sixth in the 200 meter dash and the team of LaQuasha Sheffield, Natasha Green, Sierra Mitchell and NiKeyia Shackelford took sixth in the 400 meter relay and in the 800 meter relay, Natasha Green, Laci Ford, Jeranda Dennis and Sierra Mitchell took sixth, in the 2400 meter run, Breez Henson finished second with a time of 10 minutes, 43 seconds, Abby Martinez finished fifth with a time of 11 minutes, 51 seconds and Ariana Ramos finished sixth with a time of 11 minutes, 55 seconds.

Hale said the next meet for MLMS will be on March 6, with the girls team competing at Pine Tree and the boys competing at Whitehouse.

The girls are also coached by J.J. Freeman and the boys by Chad Loper.
