Election business for KISD board
By LESTERT MURRAY news2@kilgorenewsherald.com

Trustees of Kilgore school district renewed contracts for administrators during their regularly scheduled board meeting last night.

Revard Pfeffer, business manager for KISD said on March 24 a positioning drawing will be held to determine how names are placed on the May 10 ballot. "As of this time there are two candidates for each position on the ballot," said Pfeffer. "Position 1 has Derek Borders and David Hedrick and Position 2 has incumbent Terry George and Dale Henley."

In one action item on the agenda, a parent was to speak to the board in reference to a dress code policy for KISD. The parent did not show up for the meeting so the board chose not to take any action on this item.

Terry George, KISD board of trustee member, said in his personal opinion, "the dress code is fine and should not be reviewed under any circumstance".

The issue revolved around whether a male student should be allowed to wear an earring while in school.

In other business the board voted a one-year extension for the following administrators' contracts through 2010: Mike Brown, director of maintenance; Mark Lane, director of technology; Joe Hooper, director of transportation; Nancy Roberts, director of student studies/test coordinator; Jerome Towns, coordinator of textbooks/ health and Chapter 37 liaison; Bobby Wheeley, principal at Kilgore High School; Jody Sanders, principal at Maude Laird Middle School; Cheryl Halla, principal at Kilgore Intermediate School; Tamara Dean, principal at Chandler Elementary School; Duane Deen, principal at Kilgore Heights Elementary School; Kathy Alexander, director of special education; Billy Gillum, principal at Elder CAS, and Pete Hillin, coordinator at credit recovery.

The board also chose to extend contracts to 2009 for the following personnel: Tim Banks, Randy Gaddis, Zevely Hatcher, Drenon Fite, Kenneth Clark, Andy Adams, Julia Hope and Julie Latham.

Pfeffer said salaries have not + yet been determined, but salary amounts will remain at least the same. If the district were to lower a salary for an administrator, the district would have to notify that employee at least 90 days prior to the start of school.
