LETTER TO THE EDITOR Editor, I am writing to correct a few untrue historical facts in last Sunday's paper. these were in Middle School's historical survey by Blaine Sinclair. First, I thought he wrote a good article on the lou Della Crim home. Corrections are as follows: the roses were planted out of respect for her while she was alive, and very much appreciated by her. Unfortunately, i had to replace three original derricks after Cal-Star Petroleum took them down in 1972, before I could buy the house. I put the signs on them to honor her three sons, Malcolm m being Kilgore's first mayor. Lastly, his statement that the Texas Rangers graves are in the front yard demonstrates a good imagination, but is incorrect. Two Rangers did stay there, due to a lack of lodging in town. Both being number one Grade A survivors, their burial there was never considered by them or Lou Della Crim. I think this historic survey was a good idea on Mr. Sneed's part. Any of us that have been here awhile have known a long time that the downtown needs and deserves all the help it can get. Some supervised Middle School kids can't hurt. Sincerely, Bob Florence Kilgore P.S. The house he mentioned next door belonged to John T Crim, Sr. liggett Crim's derrick's sign has a cutout of a Rangerette over it. Just a subtle reminder of his support for them. |
