Overton fourth grade girls honored at annual afternoon tea
The girls admired the beautifully set tables, which reflected the Valentine motif, complete with fresh flowers in a tea cup as the centerpiece, milk glass tableware, and cloth napkins. All rooms in the Club House had been adorned to reflect the upcoming Valentine's Day. Refreshments of finger sandwiches, fresh fruit, cookies, candies, and hot spiced tea were served. Following tea, the program continued with Colleen Randel telling a story about how a beautiful tea cup is made. She related it to the lives of the young girls in attendance. Hazel Barrett led the girls on a tour of the Club House, giving special attention to the Table of the Month and other decorating features in the House. President Browder led the girls on a tour of the grounds around the Club House and described recent landscaping activities. As the girls left, each was presented with an arrangement of pansies, the Club's flower, and a napkin clip. Among the goals of the Queen Price Garden Club are to instill in youth an interest in gardening, an awareness of, and pride in, the beauty around them, and an appreciation of those who work to achieve safe and attractive surroundings. The annual tea, with its emphasis on gracious living, helps the Garden Club work toward reaching these goals. Joan Everett chaired the committee in charge of this fourth annual tea. Other Garden Club members, in addition to those mentioned above, who assisted with the Tea were Pepper Bethea, Jessie Maw Burks, Maybell Andrews, Susan Bobbitt, and Ann Saslov. |
