Rain forces KHS-Rockwall to move tourney game here
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
By MITCH LUCAS sports@kilgorenewsherald.com

Surprise, surprise: Kilgore's home opener is tonight.

The Rose City Classic high school baseball tournament in Tyler didn't exactly get off to a roaring start this morning, thanks to the inclement weather that moved into East Texas.

As a result of the rainy weather and storms, the Kilgore High School Bulldogs' game against Rockwall, which had been scheduled to be the tournament's first game at 11 a.m. today at the University of Texas at Tyler, was postponed, and then moved to Driller Park.

KHS head coach Jeff Blackstone said the Bulldogs had placed the tarp on the field at Driller, and had gotten Rockwall to agree to play Kilgore here at Driller at 5 p.m. today (varsity-only, of course). At press time, more thunderstorms were moving into the area, so that could change.

"Right now, that's the plan," Blackstone said.

The coach said tomorrow's schedule in the Rose City Classic - with Kilgore's games to be played at Mike Carter Field in Tyler - was still the same. The Bulldogs are to face Greenville at 3:30 p.m. at Carter Field, and will play Shreveport Byrd at 8, also at Carter.

Kilgore (1-0) opened its season Monday at Wills Point with a victory.
