Henley changes filing status for KISD school board election +
By LESTER MURRAY news2@kilgorenewsherald.com

In a twist in the Kilgore school board of trustee race, Dale Henley - who had filed to run for Position 1 - has refiled to run for Position 2.

Henley said he felt that with three people running for Position 1, it was more fair for the voters to have people competing for both positions.

Henley will be taking on incumbent Terry George in Position 2, which will leave Derek Borders and David Hedrick contending for Position 1.

When George Faber announced he would no longer be running for Position 1 on the Kilgore ISD board of trustees, the race was on to fill that position. Now both positions are constested.

Henley said he believes he will bring a different perspective to the board.

"With my background in finance, I understand what it is like to deal with large financial numbers as does the school district," said Henley. "Being a certified public accountant I work with numbers like those all the time and understand how the board has to make big decisions for the school district's financial stability."

Henley said he believes in more public participation. He wants to see the public forum re-instated and he wants to see the chain of command in the school system adhered to.

The filing deadline is still open until March 10 and, according to Revard Pfeffer, business manager for KISD, any candidate may change running positions up until that time as long as they re-file according to state law, which Henley did.
