Kilgore Sonic to re-open Monday, weather permitting

The construction continues this week with the building in the background to be gone soon. Employees Corey Brown, general manager and Judy Head, breakfast manger and employee for 23 years can't wait for the new sonic to open.

The Sonic Drive-In has been a fixture in Kilgore for 35 years. On Monday, Feb. 25, Sonic will open with a new look.

Randy Morse, owner, said the old building "just got tired" and it was time for a new look. "Not only a new look, but all-new equipment, a drive-thru window and special stalls for oversized vehicles," he said.

"Kilgore has been really good to us and we hope to serve the community for another 35 years."

Morse has closed the doors - tearing them down actually - at 217 Henderson Blvd. to make way for the new restaurant to open at 6 a.m. on Feb. 25. "The schedule is still depending on weather," said Morse. "Right now everything is on that time line."

Morse said the old building is being torn down, the concrete removed and a brand new pad and stalls for drive-up customers will be installed. "Some of the work will still be going on after we open, but we hope to have it done by March 1."
