Tennis team faced toughest competition to date in Coppell There was plenty of tough competition last weekend in Coppell for the Kilgore High School tennis team, coach Jason Maroney said. Twenty-nine teams - 25 of them Class 5A schools, and the other four (including KHS) Class 4A programs - competed, and a lot of the best programs in the state were there, Maroney said. "Highland Park, Plano West, Richardson Pearce, Coppell," the coach named. "...Unfortunately, we didn't bring home any trophies, but everyone thought it was a good experience to play schools of such a high caliber." The scoring format was shortened, Maroney said, due to bad weather. The varsity tennis team is back in action Friday in a tournament at Corsicana. The junior varsity was to host Winona today (following the deadline for this paper), and is scheduled to host its own JV tournament this weekend.
