KCDC looks at available acreage
By KATHRYN MARTINEZ news1@kilgorenewsherald.com

As the city faces a rise in need for affordable homes, Kilgore Community Development Corporation is faced with the question of how much the corporation is willing to let the remainder of acreage in Remington Estates go for.

According to B.J. Owen, director of special services and CDC liaison, C&J Real Estate has approached the CDC about the possible purchase of 29.79 acres beside Maude Laird Middle School and behind Chandler Elementary School.

The CDC has owned the property at Remington Estates since 1997. Owen said it is probably in the CDC's best interest to sell the property at a minimum gain to the corporation, so the city can get more housing on the tax roll. Owen said developers are looking aat least $2 million in street and infrastructure costs and a lesser sale price would give developers more flexibility in other areas of the project.

According to Owen, C&J Real Estate has draw up a nice set of plans for the addition that includes a park and trails within the undevelopable nine-acre area along Big Head Creek.

Kilgore CDC meets 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20 At Kilgore City Hall.
