The game was originally scheduled to be played at Mount Pleasant High School, but MP officials called Sabine coach Tim Davis this morning and told him the school would be unable to host the playoff game due to school-wide illness. The new site for tonight's game is Daingerfield High School, and tipoff will be at 7 p.m. Certainly, our prayers go out to the folks at Mount Pleasant. +++ CONGRATULATIONS to the Kilgore High School varsity baseball team, which opened its season with a win at Wills Point on Monday (see more in sports on page 8). The Bulldogs are off until Thursday, when they begin play in the Rose City Classic tournament in Tyler - they'll play Thursday, Friday and Saturday, weather-permitting, and open their 2008 home schedule at Driller Park next Tuesday night at 6 p.m. against Bullard. +++ WITH KILGORE HIGH SCHOOL'S basketball season over, there are only a couple of activities on tap involving KHS tonight. The KHS soccer teams both face Whitehouse, with the boys playing here at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium, and the girls at Whitehouse High School. Game time at both sites is a 5:30 p.m. junior varsity start, varsity to follow, and both Kilgore teams needing wins to move up that district ladder. Also tonight, the Kilgore High School softball team is in action at Mineola, a 4:30 p.m. JV start - varsity will start around 6 p.m. +++ ALSO, SOME SPOTS STILL remain in the golf-a-thon to be held here at Meadowbrook Country Club on Saturday, March 8. The event benefits the American Cancer Society, and participants are to play 54 holes. There's a $500 entry fee, for which your cart, green fees, refreshments and food, a golf-athon Nike Dri-Fit shirt and dinner at day's end are included. There will be cash prizes given. And if you'd like to know more, call Greg Collins at (903) 988-3413. +++ IF YOU HAVE a child that's between kindergarten age and eighth grade and would like to be involved with a good, fun activity, I've got one for you. The annual Kilgore High School Hi-Steppers dance camp will be Saturday, March 8 at the KHS gym. The cost is just $20 per person, and a T-shirt and snack are included. Camp will be conducted that day from 9 a.m. until noon, and you may register that morning. +++ HAPPY BIRTHDAY today to Rex Whitten, Nancy Jane Burton, Red Burton, Vida Moss, Louise Broussard, Mrs. Johnnie Turner, Genia Rodriquez, Ray Copeland, Donna Gee, Lynn Young, Becky Holmes, Holly Niesher, Myra Whipple, Ethel Henry, Lloyd Florence, Sherry Davis Celebrating birthdays today with you are singer Smokey Robinson (68), and ironically, singer Bobby Rogers of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles (also 68); actor Jeff Daniels (53), talk show host Lorianne Crook (51), actress Justine Bateman (of "Family Ties;" she's 42); pop singer Seal (45); actor Benicio Del Toro (41); and singer/actress Haylie Duff (23). +++ HAPPY ANNIVERSARY today to Mr. and Mrs. John Wayne Jones, Mr. and Mrs. James Waller, Don and Marilyn Vinson, Wayne and Jody Bennett. |
