Maude Laird boys teams win district tournaments

RED TEAM, YOU DID IT! - Kilgore's Maude Laird Middle School Red, or A-Team, won the boys district basketball tournament last weekend. Help is on the way for the Kilgore High School boys basketball program.

Both of the Maude Laird Middle School boys basketball teams - the A-team, coached by Monty Miller, and the B-team, coached by Ronnie Hendrix, brought home championships from the district tournaments, played last weekend at Whitehouse High School.

The A-Team beat Whitehouse, 50-23, Marshall, 46-35, and Nacogdoches, 43-35, to claim its title, while the B-team beat Jacksonville, 26-21, Whitehouse, 24-22, and Nac, 31-30, to win a tournament title as well.

"This marks my sixth year here at Kilgore, and (until now), neither team, A or B, had won the district title," said Miller, "much less both in the same year, so this is a pretty big deal for us here at MLMS."

WHITE TEAM GOT THE JOB DONE, TOO - The MLMS White, or B-Team, also won its district tournament last weekend. The team, along with coach Ronnie Hendrix, is Sadat Banks, Harrison Bara, Kendall Brown, Ryan Dixon, Kabreuntray McMillian, Dante' Richardson, Colton Slayter, Shelton Tolliver and Barrett York.
