Turner resigned as board member tonight to make way for the hiring of his son, Russell, as a college maintenance technician. Turner was elected to serve on the KC board in May of 1999 and was president of the board from 2003-05. "Marion Turner brought his experience as an employee to the board, which gave him a unique perspective. Marion loves Kilgore College, is a true gentleman and I consider him to be a friend," said KC President Dr. Bill Holda. "I believe his service to Kilgore College will continue in the future. Marion still has much to give this community and Kilgore College." Turner will be replaced by Charles Hale who was sworn in tonight at the board meeting. The college will hold a special election in 2009 for Hale to fill the unexpired term of Turner which runs until May of 2011. In May of 2011, Hale will be eligible to run for a full six-year term for the seat in Place Six, Central Zone.
Hale was awarded as a KC Ex-Student of the Year in 1991 and is a former president of the KC Ex-Students Association. Hale was a Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force from 1971-1991. He fought in Vietnam, the Raid on Libya and the first Gulf War. After retiring from the Air Force, Hale was a pilot for Delta Air Lines from 1991-2004. He works in real estate and investments in the Kilgore area. Hale has been married to Glynda (Harvey) Hale for 38 years and has two daughters and six grandchildren.
The board also presented Sharlene Robinett, administrative assistant to the president, with a certificate of appreciation for her nine years of service. Robinett will retire the 29 of February after 27 years. Robinett said she and her husband will be moving to Colarado and she plans on working in real estate.
