LEARNING THE ROPES

Maude Laird Middle School students were out in force yesterday taking advantage of Job Shadow Day.

Pazazz Spalon located at 910 E. Main St. was visited by Paige Van Meter, an eighth grade student in Darla William's Career Investigation class.

Paige said a lot more is involved in manicures, pedicures and enhancements than you might think.

Kelley Ward, the professional nail technician at Pazazz, has been working there for 11 years. "I have been with Patti McDaniel, the owner of Pazazz almost since the beginning," said Ward. "Pazaaz has been in business for 12 years."

Ward said she works by appointment, "but if a customer just stops by and I there is an opening they can get in without an appointment."

Angela Gee, also an eighth grader at MLMS participating in the Job Shadow Day, was on assignment with the Kilgore News Herald and took the photos for this assignment.

More than 100 students participated in Job Shadow Day thanks to the generosity of local businesses, schools, doctors, veterinarians, spas, technical fields, accountants and public service areas such as law enforcement, fire departments and more.
