Kilgore Senior Citizens install new officers Kilgore Senior Citizens met Wed. Jan. 23 in the Lions Building at 307 Rusk St. Pres. Betty Roebuck called the meeting together at 11:30 Ray Drost led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Jaunita Riley gave the opening prayer. Pres. Betty welcomed back Mildred Kersh who has been absent for a while due to a serious illness. They were glad to have her back. Ray Drost helped Darlene Wilcox show the DVD of the recent make-over of her home, sponsored by the Dat Star Network of Dallas. Steve Wilhite was the Designer and Karen Thompson the Director. It was filmed to be shown on the Joni Show. It showed a crew of seventeen working hard all four days: Cleaning out the house, painting, wallpapering, installing new carpet, shopping for new linens and furniture, finishing up all the last details and moving in the new furniture before Darlene returned on the fifth day. The program was broadcasted on TV Thanksgiving Day and Dec. 19. What a wonderful experience. Following the program, David Parder conducted the installation of officers for the year 2008. Betty Roebuck, president; Margie Charpin, Vice President pro-tem; Mary Provance, secretary; and Carolyn Woods, treasure. They each received a little gift. There were no birthdays. There was one guest, Gloria Ganaway, who, with 36 members, enjoyed a covered dish lunch. The secretary's' report was read and approved. It was announced that Joyce Riddles and Jeanette Lowery were ill Thelma Guest is better and back at The Willows. The Treasurers report was approved as read. The sunshine Lady gave her report, get well cards were sent to Jeanette lowery and Betty Galey, a birthday card to Cave Connor, friendship cards to Thelma Geese and Cetrue Lanihan. She thanked Joyce Riddles and Bettie Warlick for the boxes of birthday and assorted greeting cards. Mildred Kersh thanked everyone for the cards, prayer and visits she received while she was ill. The report was read on the Boys and Girls Club Inspection trip. Flow Grancis told how desperate the Meals on Wheels Services are for a place to work out of in Kilgore. At the present time 80 meals are prepared in Tyler daily, and transported to Kilgore, then again transported to each recipient. Riddles will speak to a member of the Loins Club. Margie Charpin made the motion, seconded by Betty Galey, for the appointed Committee to meet with the City Council. Pres. Betty thanked Sherry Butler for washing the table cloths. Flow Francis and Vivian Patton won the door prizes. |
