KILGOROUND
BILL WOODALL

THOSE who were at the chamber of commerce banquet Thursday evening likely wondered, as we did, why Citizen of the Year Bobby Beane cut his acceptance speech so short.

WE'RE told that Bobby wanted to credit his parents for the character traits that are so appreciate by the community. But Bobby's mother died just a few months ago and, on the verge of becoming emotional, he gathered up his plaque from the podium and headed back to his seat.

WE have enjoyed, by the way, Kenneth P{lunk's leadership at the Chamber of Commerce during his year as Chairman of the Board. And we look forward to Roland Velvin's year at the hel.

+++

WE HAVE absolutely no idea who Lonnie Budro is. We can say, though, that he spells his last name like someone whose parents didn't want us to know they were from

Louisiana.

WE CAN also say that he emailed us the following irregularly metered poem.

Cornbread in an iron skillet

Chicken and dumplins in a pot

All the things my momma cooked, not one have I forgot.

Mayhaw jelly on a biscuit

Crookneck squash in a dish

You never use vegetable oil, when you are frying fish.

Pinto beans, and tater salad.

And deviled eggs from time to time.

These things that my momma cooked, are some favorite things of mine.

In the springtime it was blackberry cobbler.

You could smell it, way down the road.

Then she'd cook some Frito pie, when the weather was turning cold.

We played out in the yard

And I was always quickest on my feet,

Whenever she stuck her head out the door,

And yelled "IT'S TIME TO EAT!".

You could be a friend or neighbor, or someone from a foreign land.

But you wasn't gonna get a bite to eat, until you washed your hands.

Our family was like a lot of folks,

We had our share of drama.

But there was no one anywhere I looked,

Who could cook as good as momma.

IF YOU value your personal relationships, and we're certain that you do, take whatever steps are necessary to remind yourself that Thursday is Valentine's Day.
