Mellencamp asks McCain not to use his sings in campaign

PHOENIX (AP) - John Mellencamp apparently isn't interested in having John McCain use his songs on the campaign trail.

Mellencamp's publicist has sent a letter to McCain's presidential campaign, pointing out that Mellencamp is a liberal and had been backing Democrat John Edwards.

The publicist also says Mellencamp told him that the situation made him uncomfortable and he couldn't imagine Mc- Cain would want to be associated with him.

A McCain campaign spokesman says that Mellencamp's songs -- including "Our Country" and "Pink Houses" -- will no longer be played at campaign events.
