Kilgore Rotary Club moving back to Meadowbrook Country Club Calling it "the best place" for the Kilgore Rotary Club to hold their meetings, the local civic organization voted Wednesday to move their meetings back to Meadowbrook Country Club as of Wednesday, February 13. The club met for years at the country club and has met in several places over the past few years, including its current location in the Masonic Lodge on Stone Road, but members have longed for the chance to go back to Meadowbrook Country Club and the opportunity has come to do just that. "We feel at home at Meadowbrook Country Club, and we have enjoyed a long relationship with the club," David Castles, current Rotary president, commented. "We have nothing but the highest praise for the Masonic Lodge and for Aramark, who have been our hosts for the past year or so, but we feel it is in the best interest of the club to return to Meadowbrook Country Club for our meetings." David Cline, of Meadowbrook, said the club has held several meetings with Castles and Sammy York, the president for next year, to work out the details. Cline said the club is glad to have Rotary back and will do its best to continue the excellent relationship the two have enjoyed. "We are working hard here at Meadowbrook Country Club to serve this community well and continue to grow the membership," Cline said. "We are glad to have the Rotary Club back for their weekly meetings." Details on the move were worked out last week, and the Rotary board was positive in their response to the proposed agreement. The club membership followed suit on Wednesday with a very positive vote. But, again, they wanted Aramark and the Masonic Lodge to know that the decision was not negative reflection on either of them. Rotary Club members said it is good that Rotary is moving back to Meadowbrook, both for Rotary and for the community in general. "We need that country club in Kilgore, and we need to support it," one Rotarian said. Maybe our meeting here will help attract members." Besides the weekly meetings, Rotary will hold the annual Scholar Athlete Banquet at Meadowbrook Country Club in April as well as the annual Rotary Golf Tournament at Meadowbrook Country Club on Monday, May 5. "We are looking forward to these special events coming to the country club," Greg Collins, chairman for both events, commented. "Meadowbrook Country Club has shown over the past six to eight months that they are serious about doing a good job for Kilgore at a fair price. I chaired the Chamber of Commerce Tournament that was held at Meadowbrook Country Club last September, and they did an excellent job providing us lunch through the kitchen and everything we needed to host a great event. I am sure they will continue that same type of service in our weekly meetings as well as in these special festivities." In other Rotary news, the slate of officers for the coming year was approved. Sammy York will be president, David Castles will be vice president and assistant to the president, Jerry Camp will be president-elect, Keith Hooks will be treasurer, Bob Miracle will be Secretary, |
