Barbra Bush presented at Kilgore Woman's Club The Kilgore Woman's Club held their January 24th meeting at The First Christian Church. Hostesses Carroll Bolton and Peggy Bowne provided the delicious refreshments with a lovely table setting with pink and white roses. President Peggy Bowne opened the meeting with the club collect. Ruth Ann Camp read the minutes of the last meeting. Caroline Kennedy gave the treasurer's report. Billie Oliphant read the Texas Legislative report, her subject being "Prayer in Schools." The civic report was given by Virginia Wallace. The Community Concert Association presented The Harry James Orchestra on Sunday, January 27, to a very appreciative crowd. There is one more concert left in this season. This will be on March 6, at 7:30 p.m. and title "On Broadway." Tickets for the new season are now available. The purchase of a ticket for the new season will entitle the bearer to the "On Broadway" concert free. Contact Wanda Bittick (903-984- 7753) or Claud Wallace (903- 983-2834) for tickets to all the exciting shows to come. Thursday, February 7, the Chamber of Commerce Banquet will be held at the Kilgore High School Cafeteria. Tickets are $25. Virginia Wallace gave the program for this meeting. Virginia chose for her subject, Barbara Bush. Born in 1925, Barbara fell in love and married George Bush in 1945. They had 6 children, tragically losing a girl, Robin, in 1953. Barbara Bush was wife of one President and mother to another. The only other was Abigal Adams. She claims to have written every word herself in her book, "Barbara Bush," a book well worth reading. The Bushes now reside back in Houston. The meeting closed with a quote from President Peggy Bowne. The next meeting will be held at the home of Diana Jones, on the 14th of February. |
