DAR to celebrtate Texas Indepencence Day

Daughters of the Republic of Texas, John Tilly Edwards Chapter held their January meeting at The New Hupie Chinese Restaurant, Longview. Twenty members were present with three visitors. Guest speaker, Mr. Van Craddock, entertained the members with stories of famous people of East Texas from before the civil War to today.

Texas Independence Day will be celebrated March 1st at the Longview Public Library with speaker Mr. Tommie Merritt. Many notables will be present for this historic occasion, to which the public is invited. All Texans are asked to fly their Texas flag.

The display cases at the Longview Public Library will contain memorabilia for the month of March in recognition of Texas Independence Day. Early Texas items of interest concerning the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will be shown. The public is invited to view this interesting and informative display of our Texas history.
