Kilgore High School Graduate Serving at Walter Reed Army Hospital as First Lieutenant

KRISTEN MCALISTER-VELEZ FIRST LIEUTENANT, U.S. ARMY

Kristen McAlister-Velez, daughter of Craig McAlister, took her oath of office as a First Lieutenant Officer in the United States Army on October 7, 2007, and graduated from the Officer Basic Leader's Course at Fort Sam Houston in December of 2007.

A 2000 graduate of Kilgore High School, Kristen graduated from Texas Christian University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and is a Certified Critical Care Nurse and a Trauma Nurse Specialist. Since becoming an RN, Kristen has worked as a traveling ICU nurse in hospitals with critical nursing shortages in Dallas/ Fort Worth, San Diego, and Seattle. Currently, Kristen is serving at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, working in critical care and serving on the nursing education committee and on the Rapid Response Team.
