UT HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER OFFERS FREE DIABETES EDUCATION CLASSES A new Empower series of diabetes education sessions is meeting in Hudnall Auditorium at UTHSCT, 11937 U.S. 271 in Tyler. THE RUSK COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CLUB will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, in the community room of Henderson Federal Savings, 130 N. Marshall in Henderson. All local Democratic candidates for office will be present to talk to interested voters. Visitors welcome.

THE FRIENDS OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY will be holding their annual membership meeting at the library at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29. The public is welcome to attend.

THURSDAY

WEIGHT WATCHERS is opening a new location in Kilgore starting January 24. Meetings will be held every Thursday at 6 p.m. at Chandler Street Church of Christ, 2700 Chandler Street. David Nugent will be leading meetings at the Kilgore location. Weight Watchers meetings last approximately 35 minutes.

"QUICKBOOKS FOR BUSINESS OWNERS AND MANAGERS" (LEVELS 1 and 2) will be offered in February and March by Kilgore College Small Business Development Center. LEVEL 1: Thursdays, February 14, 21, 28 and March 6; LEVEL 2: Tuesdays/Thursdays, March 11, 13, 25 and 27. Class hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Fee is $129. FRIDAY

KILGORE CHURCH WOMEN will have their regular quarterly meeting on Friday, January 25 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Lunch will be at 11:30 followed by a program on "Ruth" presented by Jane Ann Crowson. A short business meeting will conclude by 1 p.m. All women of the community and area pastors are welcome to attend.

SATURDAY

KILGORE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1983 will be meeting at the Maude Laird Middle School to plan for their summer reunion. The meeting will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 26. For further information, call 903-646-0300.

THE MISS DAWG 2008 PAGEANT will be in the Kilgore High School Auditorium Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. Some of the senior boys will participate in evening gown, talent and interview competition for the title of Miss Dawg 2008. Tickets are $5 each and will be sold at the door. Proceeds will benifit Project Graduation. Come enjoy an evening of laughs and support Project Gradation.

THE WOMEN'S AUXILIARY THEY ARE STILL OPERATING THE GIFT SHOP at Laird Memorial Hospital and are still in need of paperbacks. The auxiliary sells the books for 25 cents and transfers the money to a fund which helps buy medicine for indigent or needy patients at the hospital and scholorships for nursing students. Please take new or nicely-used paperbacks to the auxiliary desk in the lobby at the hospital.
