Overton fourth grade girls and their teachers were honored guests during the Queen Price Garden Club's fifth annual Christmas Tea on Dec. 9. Queen Price Garden Club members hosted an afternoon Christmas Tea at their club house for fourth grade girls from Overton Elementary School on Dec. 9.

The girls, festively attired for the occasion, along with their teachers Susan Bobbitt and Jeannie Hartley, were welcomed by Colleen Randel. She also talked briefly about the goals and history of Queen Price Garden Club.

Sharlot Roquette read the book "The Legend of the Poinsettia" and presented each girl with a poinsettia ornament.

The girls admired the beautifully set tables, which reflected the holiday theme, and enjoyed refreshments of finger sandwiches, fresh fruit, ice cream snowballs, fruit punch and other delicacies typically served at a tea. Special tableware, cloth napkins and silver service pieces were used. The centerpieces featured delicious Santa cookies, home baked and decorated by Carolyn Browder for the guests to enjoy.

Following the tea, Hazel Barrett led the girls on a tour of the club house, giving special attention to the celebrated holiday symbol good old St. Nick, which was used in decorating throughout the house.

Among the garden club's goals: to instill in youth an interest in gardening, an awareness of and pride in the beauty around them, and an appreciation of those who work to achieve safe and attractive surroundings. The annual tea, with its emphasis on gracious living, helps the club work toward reaching these goals.

Garden club members, in addition to those mentioned above, who assisted with the fifth annual tea were MayBell Andrews, Andy Chiles, Mary Pat Eaves, Joan Everett, Claudia Gwynn, Phyllis Harper, Mary Kathryn Montgomery, Ann Saslav and Helen Vaughan. Fourth grade girls in attendance
