Tis the season

CHITCHAT CORNER
LINDA K. BALLARD

There's no turning back, Christmas is upon us and we see our neighbors and friends hustling and bustling to get those last minute things done before St. Nick arrives knocking on their door.

Dovie Jones didn't know what a wonderful idea she had last week when she attended a cookie party provided for the Forever Friends by Betty Bearden. Everyone was told to bring a silly gift. Dovie arrived with a box of Ex-lax and a box of chocolate covered cherries. It was the hit of the party with everyone fighting to carry home her prize…however, Betty Bonds came in with a tray of a dozen cookies - animal cookies that is. The laughter almost took the house down, we were told. She did bring other home baked cookies that was presented later although good, just not quite the reaction received from the animal cookies…

Dorothy Mitchell opened up her home to the Miriam Sunday School Class last week for holiday refreshments and fellowship. Sixteen attended her party. At Gertie Lacy's request, Christmas carols were sung with Dorothy playing the piano. "We enjoyed each other's company," she said. "Well, we must have, the party lasted longer than usual," she laughed.

You better watch out, kids cause Santa Claus was seen at Kilgore Manor and Greg Home last week. Evidently, we know who has been naughty or nice. Santa decided to play a follow up visit the next day at Kilgore Manor and when he started to leave one of staff members asked if he had remembered her on his list. "Well, that depends," he said. "Have you been nice?" "And what is that you want?" "Six million dollars," she answered. "Six million dollars1" exclaimed Santa. "In that case, you better plan on being very naughty…

Speaking of Santa, Lary Knowlton with BASA RESOURCES was in town this week to enjoy a holiday luncheon and movies with his Kilgore based employees. To know Lary, is to know Santa Claus as he loves people and he loves giving. He was enjoying steak, baked potato and chocolate pie with the group and they had plans on watching a humorous movie especially created for BASA as a form of relaxation.

BASA's main office is located in Dallas with 144 employees. "Quite different than in Kilgore," he said. Tracy Lawrence entertained at our holiday party there.

On a little bit of a business note, "This is not the first time in my lifetime I have seen the economy do a nose dive and re-surface. Yes, the last quarter for BASA has shown a slight decline, but we are on solid ground for the upcoming year," he said. Solid ground - doesn't that sound good? Have faith, is basically the message he is portraying and what better time than during the Christmas season.

Lary also said he took his wife to Maui for their anniversary. "When we left it was 84 degrees and when we landed in Dallas it was 24 degrees. (They must have felt they were at the North Pole.

This Christmas, please don't forget the Reason for the Season. Merry Christmas to all. We may be reached at 903-984-2593 or at chitchatlinda@ aol.com.
