LOCAL SPORTS IN BRIEF SOFTBALL Kilgore softball boosters meet Monday The Kilgore High School softball booster club will meet Monday night at 6 p.m. in room 308 at KHS. Parking is available in the lot behind the school, next to the field house. The guest speaker for the meeting is Jay Terry of Northeast Texas Community College. BASKETBALL KHS boys home Friday; girls in Union Grove tourney Kilgore's varsity boys basketball team will play at home for the second straight game on Friday, hosting Carthage at 6:30 p.m. The Bulldogs are 0-2, but lost their first two games to Athens and to Gladewater by a combined five points. KHS is coached by Jimmy Williams. Coach Davia Garrett's Lady Bulldogs will try for another win today at 2 p.m. against Carlisle in a round-robin tournament at Union Grove. Kilgore faces the host team, Union Grove, on Friday at 2 p.m., and Saturday, the Lady 'Dogs play Union Hill at 1:35. Both of Kilgore's varsity teams, as well as the freshmen and junior varsity, will play at home Tuesday night against Tatum. KYBA registration Saturday A second registration for the Kilgore Youth Basketball Association's upcoming season will be this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the older gymnasium on the Kilgore High School campus. This is for boys and girls first through seventh grades. KYBA official Tim Capps said there was a good turnout for the first registration, and that the league is expecting over 300 children to participate this season. Games are played on Saturdays at KHS, and Capps noted the enrollment has increased the last two years. Registration is $40 for the first child, $30 for each additional child, and for more information, call Reggie Henson at (903) 983-0945, or Capps at (903) 984-3082. Overton Little Dribblers sign-up Saturday, too The Overton Little Dribblers will have registration for the 2009 youth boys and girls season this Saturday at the Overton High School gym from 2 p.m. until 4, and next Saturday, Dec. 13, at the same times, also at the gym. The fee for registration is $35 for the first child from a family; $65 for two; $95 for three; and $125 for four or more. To register, a child must be five years old before August 1, 2009, and must not turn 13 before that date. Practice will begin Jan. 5, and the first game is Jan. 17. The league plays for six weeks. For children to play this year, they must be signed up in time — there is no late registration option.
