Joy Makers enjoy Thanksgiving fare, blessings

The Joy Makers met on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, in the Richardson Building and enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey, ham, dressing and all the trimmings.

Mrs. Doris Snow made everyone feel welcomed and called attention to the prayer list. Morris Hollowell gave the invocation before the meal. Anna Bess Hedrick's little pecan pies were a favorite since it had been quite a while since she brought them.

With a touch of fall in the air and Thanksgiving, Neola Leach and Banona Watson decorated each table with green and gold linen cloths, wicker baskets full of fruit surrounded by small turkeys, squirrels, pumpkins, Pilgrims, fall leaves and candy.

Celebrating November birthdays are Betty Crews, Joy Murphy, and Gertie Lacy going on her 95th one. Art and Doris Snow are celebrating a special 6th wedding anniversary. Time really flies when you are married to a great guy.

Laverne Mercer recognized the veterans by having them stand up and thanking them for helping us have our freedom. In their honor, Drew Clements did a great job of singing "God Bless The U.S.A." Why, Lee Greenwood would have been nighty proud to have heard the song!

But the program got even better as Jim McWilliams introduced Dr. Bill Tisdale as the speaker. He warned the group he was going to shed some humor, and that he did. He stressed the importance of a merry heart, and had everyone laughing.

Dr. Tisdale also spoke about the blessing we receive from God and giving thanks for friends and heaven. He mentioned how important senior adults are to a church. The finishing touch of the evening was Sue Clements singing "Beulah Land," which everyone needs to enjoy.

Members present were Neola Leach, Banona Watson, J.C. and Betty Bearden, W.C. and Mary Jane Bearden, Louise McKinney, Mary Lee Todd, Travis and Betty Crews, Jim and Pam McWilliams, Don and Betty Bonds, Kenny Leonard, Johnny and Sue Clements, Rue Taylor, Art and Doris Snow, Anne Waller, Jewel Matlock, Lou Hands, and G.W. and Elaine Woodmansee.

Also enjoying the time of fellowship were Charles and Carolyn Wimberley, Harold Ray and Joanne Guin, Jo Poteet, Ruth Johnson, Bill and Anna Bess Hedrick, Doris Waggoner, Don and Becky Copeland, Talmadge and Laverne Mercer, Mark Fried, Lavelle Jenkins, Dovie Jones, Eloise Duncan, Gertie Lacy, Harold and Wanda Pierce, Morris and Debbie Hollowell and Jakey Still.

Special guests were Angie Clark, Carolyn Holcombe, Drew Clements, Dr. Bill Tisdale, and Helen Tisdale. New members welcomed by the group were Avil and Joy Murphy.

Talmadge Mercer led everyone in singing "Blest Be The Tie" as the benediction. The Christmas meeting will be Tuesday, Dec. 9, with snack foods and gift exchanges.
