Kilgore Garden Club enjoys herbal presentation

The Kilgore Garden Club met at the home of Kay Yates on Nov. 6. Refreshments were provided by Cynthia Adams, Melynda Keenan and Mrs. Yates.

Peggy Bowne opened the meeting by reading "The Gardener's Prayer." Joy Tate read an interesting article from "The National Gardener" on nonsoil gardening with alfalfa mung sprouts and sunflower seeds grown in glass jars —- a fun way to introduce children to gardening.

After the business meeting, Melynda Keenon gave an informative program on growing herbs. Mrs. Keenon had a large display of herbs from her garden. Her children gather clippings of her many herbs to be used in preparing the daily meals at her home.

Two books were recommended as having the best information for growing herbs, "The Herb Bible" and "The Herb and Spice Companion." Each member received an information sheet on growing herbs in Texas and a bundle tied with colorful ribbon.

Members present were Helen Goodwin, Martha Lee, Dolores Meyers, Jean Robertson, Cynthia Adams, Peggy Bowne, Joy Tate, Melynda Keenan and Kay Yates.

The next meeting will be a luncheon at Pam Tannehill's home on Thursday, Dec. 4. Co- Hostesses will be Darlene Bingham, Peggy Bowne and Kalynn Harrison.
