ADELYN PEARSON GRIMES

Adelyn Pearson was born July 15, 1911, in Chicago, Ill., to Fred and Anna Pearson. She died on Nov. 18, 2008, in Tyler at 97 years of age.

After high school, she attended the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, majoring in piano. She taught musical kindergarten classes, as well as private piano for many years. She also was organist for a number of years at several churches in Illinois, Wisconsin and California. In her 70's she started writing poetry, and was a member of the Rusk County Poetry Society for many years. In 2000 she was selected as Poet of the Year by the Poetry Society.

Mrs. Grimes also worked as an administrative assistant at George Williams College Camp in Williams Bay, Wisc., the University of Colorado, the University of Southern California, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

In 1939 she married Glenn Grimes, who preceded her in death, as did her two brothers, Fred Pearson, Jr. and Carlton Pearson.

She is survived by her sister Helen Oldmstead of Michigan; four children, Sue Imrie, Bill Grimes, Nancy Grimes and Joan Barthelemess, and two sons-in-law, Ian Imrie and Richard (Bart) Barthelemess. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Dawn Poe, Stephen Grimes, Christopher Imrie, Rodney Barthelemess, Doug Barthelemess, and Debbie Long, two grandsons-in-law, Jack Poe and Dan Long, and three granddaughters-in-law, Angie Grimes, Carie Barthelemess, and Kristi Imrie; seven great-grandchildren, Macy and Colby Grimes, Megan and Haley Poe, Lexie and Cade Barthelemess, and Chet Barthelemess; by many nieces and nephews and many other loving family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the First Christian Church of Kilgore, 609 E. Main St., followed by visitation and a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Christian Church of Henderson, 306 N. Main St., Henderson, TX 75652, the First Christian Church of Kilgore or the charity of your choice.
