LOCAL SPORTS IN BRIEF

FOOTBALL KHS, West Rusk begin playoffs tonight

As previewed Thursday in Game Time Weekly, the Kilgore High School Bulldogs and the West Rusk High School Raiders begin their playoff runs tonight, and hope to be playing well into December.

The Bulldogs open the UIL Class 4A Division 2 playoffs at Marshall, a 7:30 p.m. start, taking on the Mavericks for the second time this season. Kilgore (8-2) dropped an early-season game to Marshall in September, 28- 18, and the Mavericks (6-4) struggled through district play, at one point losing three straight games. Tonight's game can be heard on the radio at 1240-AM, and online at tsrnsports.com, with the Ragin' Red Broadcasting crew on both. The KHS-Marshall winner will face either Ennis or Red Oak next weekend.

West Rusk (8-2) faces Hearne (5-4) at Waxahachie, also a 7:30 p.m. kickoff, in the UIL Class 2A Division 2 playoffs. The Raiders are in the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons, and the very first time under coach John Frazier, in his second season.

Leverett's Chapel has also qualified for the playoffs in the six-man division, but has an open date tonight.
