Chamber honors workers

Kilgore Chamber of Commerce Ambassador awards were presented to volunteers for their outstanding service to the chamber during its November meeting.

"We have wonderful volunteers and any time we can reward them for their service to the chamber, we want to do that," said Mike Coston, chamber president.

Toni Ferguson received the Ambassador of the Quarter award for her contribution of many hours spent in assistance with chamber functions and membership drives.

According to Coston, Ferguson has attended many ribbon cuttings and chamber events, as well as made contact with current and prospective members.

"During this quarter Toni logged more than 50 volunteer hours for the chamber," Coston said. "Because we are a non-profit organization, she has in essence helped all chamber members, making chamber events a success."

Theresa Ferguson was given Ambassador of the Month award for her volunteer hours in Octo- ber.

"Theresa has been an Ambassador of the Month already three times this year," Coston said. "She put in almost 10 hours this month."

According to Coston, what makes these volunteer hours special is many ambassadors work full-time jobs and put in time on Saturdays and evenings, all for the betterment of the business community.

Linda Ballard, Margie Hall and Valerie Melton received awards for attending ribbon cuttings for new chamber members.

"This shows community support for our members," Coston said. "Businesses feel like the chamber is working hard for them when they see this kind of support."

Coston said in addition to ambassadors attendance, often Jeff Howell, city manager, or other city officials and council members also attend, further supporting the businesses.

He presented gift cards to ambassadors who signed up new members during the annual membership drive.

"This is just a thank-you for chamber ambassadors for contributing so much time to our member businesses and recruitment of new members," Coston said. "We have some great volunteers at the chamber, working hard for Kilgore businesses."
