      Here's a math conundrum that only a grammar person can explain: If one person has one grammar question, how many grammar questions do 100 people have? Mathematically speaking, it would make sense to guess 100. Statistically speaking, it would make sense to guess somewhere between one and 100. But only in the grammar world does one times 100 equal zero.

Club Au Courant celebrates 90 years with Ellen Watson
      Members of Club Au Courant met in the parlor of First Christian Church on Oct. 15. Hostesses for the meeting were Kay McKinley, Vivian Patton and Jean Robertson. The hostesses honored club member Ellen Watson on the occasion of her 90th birthday with a birthday cake and card shower. A bouquet of red roses, Club Au Courant's adopted flower, was presented to Mrs.

Kilgore Senior Citizens celebrate the holidays
      The Kilgore Senior Citizens group celebrated Halloween with a costume contest and discussed their upcoming Thanksgiving dinner plans when they met Oct. 22 at the Lions Building. President Betty Roebuck called the meeting to order at 11:30. Ray Drost led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and Juanita Riley gave the opening prayer.

      Members of Preceptor Omicron Epsilon Chapter Beta Sigma Phi heard from a nursing scholarship winner and learned amazing facts about pumpkins when they met Oct. 21 at Country Place Village. Ronnie Sullins wins 2008 Rusk County Hay Show contest
      Ronnie Sullins' hay was deemed the best during the 2008 Rusk County Hay Show, held Oct. 28 at the Rusk County Exposition Center. Producers from Rusk County entered 106 hay entries, which were evaluated for protein content. Hay quality was reported very good overall.

WAVES AGO veterans will salute their peers on Nov. 11
      Members of WAVES AGO Unit 61 Chapter of Northeast Texas Women Veterans discussed their plans for Veterans Day when they met Oct. 25 at the Elks Lodge. A Veterans Day Rose Petal Ceremony is planned for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Teague Park Lake Pier in Longview. The event will honor female veterans who have passed on in all wars or peacetime duty.

General bucks culture of silence on mental health
      WASHINGTON (AP) - It takes a brave soldier to do what Army Maj. Gen. David Blackledge did in Iraq. It takes as much bravery to do what he did when he got home. Blackledge got psychiatric counseling to deal with wartime trauma, and now he is defying the military's culture of silence on the subject of mental health problems and treatment.
