Melissa Vonsenden, assistant principal at Maude Laird Middle School said she was proud to have recently attended a Special Olympics Swim meet at Texas A&M University where a MlMS student was participating. Vonsenden said Cathie Richey, 12, competed in four events. Because of her talent she was placed to compete against swimmers five to 40 years her senior said Vonsenden. Cathie won two gold medals in the 25 yard freestyle and the 50 yard backstroke, a silver medal in the 100 yard freestyle relay and a bronze medal in the 50 yard freestyle.
