WAVES AGO veterans will salute their peers on Nov. 11

Members of WAVES AGO Unit 61 Chapter of Northeast Texas Women Veterans discussed their plans for Veterans Day when they met Oct. 25 at the Elks Lodge.

A Veterans Day Rose Petal Ceremony is planned for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Teague Park Lake Pier in Longview. The event will honor female veterans who have passed on in all wars or peacetime duty. Anyone who knows of a female veteran they would like to honor is welcomed.

The unit approved a donation to the Marine Corps League for its "Toys for Tots" program. The group also noted the ongoing collection of items for Christmastime comfort kits to be distributed to female veterans at the VA hospital in Shreveport, La.

The next meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the veterans ceremony scheduled at the Gregg County Courthouse. The group will gather for a luncheon and meeting, then proceed to the Teague Park veterans tribute.
