Kilgore Senior Citizens celebrate the holidays The Kilgore Senior Citizens group celebrated Halloween with a costume contest and discussed their upcoming Thanksgiving dinner plans when they met Oct. 22 at the Lions Building. President Betty Roebuck called the meeting to order at 11:30. Ray Drost led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and Juanita Riley gave the opening prayer. There were no birthdays to celebrate, but members welcomed four visitors: Doris Mims, Florence Kiss, the Rev. Harry Lagrone and his wife. They joined 35 seniors for a delicious covered-dish luncheon. President Betty announced the next meeting will be a catered Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 12. All who plan to attend should have already signed up and paid $2 by Oct. 29. The Secretary and the Treasurer's reports were read and approved. The Sunshine Lady reported that no cards needed to be sent, so she made the announcement, "I'm Dorothy Huberman, and I approve this message." Seven entered the Halloween Contest — and no two people dressed alike. Ginger Anglin, dressed as a jack-o'-lantern, and Dottie Green, who came as an old man, won the prizes. Ray Drost told the group about a man named Bubba who called 911 to tell that his wife had passed away and the trouble he had explaining their address. Everyone played bingo, with Joyce Riddles calling and President Betty assisting. Winners were Audrey Fulcher, Roy Tucker, Don Hale, Roger Crouch, Flo Francis and Ray Drost. Faye Rollins and Syblene Dye won the door prizes. The meeting closed at 12:50. Kilgore Senior Citizens will meet again on Nov. 12 at the Lions Building, 307 Rusk Street.
