Club Au Courant celebrates 90 years with Ellen Watson
Kay McKinley, Ellen Watson, Jean Robertson and Vivian Patton Members of Club Au Courant met in the parlor of First Christian Church on Oct. 15. Hostesses for the meeting were Kay McKinley, Vivian Patton and Jean Robertson.
The hostesses honored club member Ellen Watson on the occasion of her 90th birthday with a birthday cake and card shower. A bouquet of red roses, Club Au Courant's adopted flower, was presented to Mrs. Watson and members sang "Happy Birthday."
President Jan Elliott called the meeting to order and members recited the club collect. Committee reports were given and announcements of upcoming events were reported.
The program theme for the club year is "Contemporary First Ladies of the White House." Vivian Patton, program presenter, departed from this theme to honor Mrs. Watson, a former First Lady of Kilgore. Mrs. Patton related contributions made by former First Ladies of Kilgore who were members of Club Au Courant.
In honor of the occasion, she focused on Ellen Watson and her involvement in the Kilgore community, which earned her the title in 1954. The activities have included service to church, public school, Kilgore College, Kilgore Public Library, Laird Hospital and many other areas of community life. Mrs. Watson continues to be active in service in several these areas.
