City Council prepares to annex

AREA CITY PLANS TO ANNEX City council is taking measures to Annex a 134-acre tract of land to fill in some gaps around the perimeter of the city.

The annexation would affect approximately 53 property owners.

The desired property is north of Danville Road, south of FM 349 and continues east — from just west of the U.S. 259 bypass to the intersection of FM 349 and Danville Road. Most of the property is part of Danville Cemetery.

Council agreed to begin the process of annexation, which includes a service plan and public hearing dates.

The service plan is a detailed plan of how the city would establish first responder services, sewer system extensions, trash pick up, animal control, building inspections, code enforcement and park development.

On Nov. 13 the city planning department will notify all property owners, utility companies and railroads of annexation proceedings by certified mail; on Dec. 4 notice of proceedings will be published; on Dec. 16 the first of two public meetings is scheduled at a regularly scheduled council meeting; on Dec. 30 a second notice of proceedings will be published; on Jan. 13 the second of two public meetings is scheduled during another regularly scheduled council meeting; and, on Feb. 10 city planners expect to do the final reading and approval of the annexation.
