KHS won first place as a team. The Kilgore High School varsity tennis team concluded its fall season last weekend with a nice showing in the Class 4A Region 2 tournament in Grapevine, and Tuesday, the KHS junior varsity was impressive in its own right, winning first place in the District 14-4A JV tournament.
The tourney, played in Jacksonville, featured 29 KHS players, coach Jason Maroney said, and 16 of them brought back medals.
"The girls once again dominated the tournament," Maroney said, "and we had several boys do well, also."
The JV plays again Nov. 20 at Texas High in Texarkana.
In the 14-4A tournament, Kilgore swept girls singles top honors. Macy Grimes finished first, Lauren Terry second, Monte Broussard third and Ashley Garcia fourth.
The results looked much the same in girls doubles. Naomi Worden and Courtney Foxworth took first place for Kilgore, followed by two more KHS teams: Gayla Williams and Taylor Ward, and Zonera Javed and Shivani Patel.
In boys singles, Chance Osteen took second for Kilgore. Brannon Davis is third, and Matt Horton won consolation. Jose Tapia and Daniel Modisette finished first in boys doubles. Stefan Rav and Daniel Medford were fourth, and Nathan Barnfield and Weston Ramsey finished with consolation.
