Local Members Attend Alpha Delta Kappa District Meeting

The District V Alpha Delta Kappa International Sorority of Women Educators Fall Meeting was held in the Heritage Room of the First United Methodist Church, Longview, Texas, on Saturday, October 4, 2008. It was hosted by the Theta chapter of Longview and the theme for the day was "Celebrate What's Right with the World".
Anita Neeley, Theta President, welcomed guests. District V President Pat Holley thanked the Theta chapter by presenting them "Kisses from District V" to be shared at their next chapter meeting.
District V Officers and special guests were introduced. International President Ann Hudson, State President Paula O'Neill, as well as South Central Regional Vice President Jackie Farmer were introduced as well as other present and past international members, state officers, and several past District V officers, including Mary Ann Zager, the first District V President.
The Thought for the Day was given by Ann Johnson, District V Chaplain. Using the phrase "Make new friends, but keep the old for on is silver and the other one gold," she reminded sisters of the special friendships we have through ADK. She also used the acronym "FRIEND" to remind us of the characteristics of true friends.
Greetings from the International Chapter were given by International President Ann Hudson.
State President Paula O'Neill brought Greetings from the State Board. She shared the Lone Star Chapter Criteria and other information.
The Chapter Roll was called by Teresa Anderson, District V Secretary. A total of fifty-three were in attendance. Nine members represented Kilgore's Alpha Rho Chapter which were Jennifer Utzman, District V Treasurer, Teresa Anderson, District V Secretary and Alpha Rho President, Candy Gleghorn, Vice President, Corresponding Secretary Sarah Garasic, Treasurer Glynette Ford, Membership Chairperson Dee Turner, Betty Fowler, Delilah Myers, and Marion Branum.
The Minutes from the Spring General Meeting were read and approved as corrected. Jennifer Utzman, District V Treasurer, presented the Treasurer's Report. Jana Prochaski, District V Historian, explained that Archive pages will be distributed at the Spring meeting. She encouraged chapter Historians to take pictures of their meetings and events, and to remember to make duplicates.
The State Convention Report was given by Patsy Green in her uniquely entertaining way.
The Regional Conference Report was presented by Jane Kivell as a time to learn to more about being an officer and member through various workshops. History and Heritage includes that Texas District V has had seven Past State Presidents. A study of "Beyond Cultures" was also a prominent part of the Conference. She reminded members that the South Central Region is composed of MOMKAT: Missouri, Oklahoma, Mexico, Kansas, Arkansas, and Texas.
Members were reminded that October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Founders' Day Celebration was presented by District V Officers: Jennifer Utzman, Teresa Anderson, Evelene Albert, Jana Prochaski, and Sharon Noblit.
Entertainment was at theater style video, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC's "Celebrate What's Right with the World".
A lunch of hot chicken salad, fruit/green salad, and pasta salad was enjoyed by all.
Following lunch, raffle prizes were awarded. $238 was raised for the American Heart Association. $147 was donated for Hurricane Relief. The Beta Nu chapter was presented with a $20 check for the greatest percentage of members in attendance at the meeting.
Past-Historian Teresa Anderson presented the 2006-2008 District V Archives to Sharon Noblit, District V Immediate Past-President.
An Invitation to the Spring Meeting to be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009, was given by Teresa Anderson, Alpha Rho President. Members were urged to "Giddyup to District V".
President Holley encouraged members to "Celebrate ADK - Be active!"
The meeting was adjourned with the singing of the sorority song, "The Lamp of Alpha Delta Kappa".
