World Artist of the Year, to preform at Dodson for Kilgore Community Concert Assoc.
Pavlo bring a new musical style to stages around the world and will be bring his new style to Kilgore Pavlo, a young guitarist who parlayed a new musical style into a World Artist of the Year Award, brings his unique styling to the stage of Dodson Auditorium in Kilgore Thursday evening, Nov. 6, under auspices of the Kilgore Community Concert Association. Curtain time is 7:30.
A composer as well as a performer, Pavlo blended the influences of Flamenco, Latin, and classical guitar plus the Greek bouzouki into a style he calls Mediterranean. He is backed up by a band of four musicians: George Vasilakos on bouzouki and guitar; Gino Mirzio, percussionist; Randy Rodrigues on bass guitar; and Spyros Gazetos on bouzouki, bass, and keyboards.
The group performs 150 shows per year. They have recorded six albums, two of which have achieved gold status certified in Canada by the Canadian Recording Industry Association.
Pavlo was named World Artist of the Year at the Canadian Independent Music Awards in 2005. He was invited to perform for England's Prince Charles.
Pavlo began playing the guitar at age 10 and composed his first song when he was 13.
He credits much of his success to a work ethic instilled in him by his father, who advised him, "Have the courage to do what you love and the drive to do it well."
He has performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival and has written music that has been included in television shows in Canada. A PBS special is scheduled in the near future.
Pavlo was named Canada's Touring Artist of the Year in 2006 and was nominated as Smooth Jazz Guitarist of the Year in 2007.
Admission to the concert is by membership in the Kilgore Community Concert Association. No individual tickets will be sold, but season memberships may be purchased at the door for $35 for adults, $10 for students and $70 for families.
