Kilgore Intermediate School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month last Friday. Members of the faculty, along with dancers from Maude Laird Middle School entertained the student body as they learned to dance. The students learned about Hispanics from all different countries. Vicki Magana gave a power point presentation, Vicki represented Latinos in Action from Kilgore College. The guest speaker was Gloria Gallardo, from NBC 56 who talked about being born in Mexico and how it was for her immigrating to the United States. Andy Adams is the principal at KIS. Kilgore ISD is now part of the Texas Vaccines for Children Program, a federally funded program which provides required and some optional vaccinations for students enrolled in KISD at no cost to parents. DEAR ABBY: May I point out something to "Mannerly Mom in Cumberland" (July 23)? She's the woman who, after thanking someone, becomes offended when she hears, "No problem," rather than, "You're welcome." In many languages, the literal response to "Thank you" translates to, "It was nothing." So a reply of "No problem" is not entirely inappropriate. More...

Before the rematch between Kilgore College and Tyler Junior College on Saturday afternoon, one might have argued that the TJC Apaches needed the win just as badly, if not more so, than the Rangers. Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Bena Massad, of Kilgore will be held were Oct.11, 2008 at Christ the Catholic Church. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler. She passed away on Oct.10, 2008. She was born Bena Korkmas on Aug. 6, 1921 in Fort Smith, Ark. to Joseph H. and Nazha Korkmas. More...
