KISD joins the Texas Vaccines for Children program

Kilgore ISD is now part of the Texas Vaccines for Children Program, a federally funded program which provides required and some optional vaccinations for students enrolled in KISD at no cost to parents.

The program is administered on the Kilgore High School, Maude Laird Middle School and Kilgore Intermediate School campuses. Kilgore Heights will begin the program as soon as the nurse at there returns from maternity leave. The nurse at Chandler Elementary will coordinate the vaccinations for Chandler students with another campus. KISD is able to provide this new service because the district has registered nurses at all campuses.

In addition to the required vaccinations for Texas school attendance, each campus can also give flu, Hepatitis A, HPV series (for females over 11 years old to help prevent some forms of cervical cancer), and MCV4 (to help prevent meningitis).

For any of the vaccinations, either required or optional, parents must sign release forms which are available at the schools. Parents are notified by the school nurse when their student is scheduled for a booster vaccination with forms being sent home with the student.

KISD is excited to be able to offer this service to all students enrolled in the school district. For more information about the program please contact your student's school nurse by calling the school office.
