In six-man football, the game has a mercy rule, and this game was over at halftime.
It was the Division 2, District 15 game for both teams this season, and the first for LC at the sixman level ever. The Lions (5-1 overall, 1-0 in district play) were in their first district action since 1984.
Five of the six Lions' starters scored. Hunter Hammontree contributed in four touch downs, Trevor Dean scored twice, Daniel Still and Kyle Youngblood each caught touch downs and Taylor Jordan returned an interception for a score.
"Our kids were focused — they were ready to play," LC head coach Matt Everett stated. "They came out to a fast start like we hoped they would."
The Lions scored 32 points before the Dragons got on the scoreboard. The Dragons were held to six points and 32 yards during the first quarter.
"We have had problems all year getting out of the gate," Everett said. " ...They had problems with our speed. Overall, we played a good solid football game. We took care of business."
On the opening drive the Lions marched 58- yards in two plays with Hammontree running the last 38 yards for the first touchdown of the night. He made the extra point (kicks count for two points in six-man ball), and LC led 8-0 with 9:06 to play in the first.
Hammontree then hit Dean on the next series with a 62-yard pass over the right shoulder. Hammontree again kicked the extra point and put the Lions ahead by16 with less than three minutes off the first quarter clock.

The one score for the Dragons came during the closing seconds of the first quarter. Ryan Wilson threw a pass to Brent Fowlers for the 2-yard score — the extra point failed.
The Dragons recovered an onside kick, and was marching the ball down the field when Jordan intercepted a pass from Dragon's Brady Lee. Jordan returned the interception for for the score. Hammontree booted the point to put the Lions ahead 40-6.
Within the next three minutes the Lions would score three times. Dean would run 28 yards for a score with 6:13, and on a fake kick, Still hit Youngblood for the extra point. On the next LC possession, Hammontree connected with Youngblood for a 32 yard scoring pass, and on the final touchdown, Still finished a two-play 12-yard drive by toting the ball in from the 1. Hammontree's final kick was good.
The Lions will travel about 227 miles away to Walnut Springs for their first road district game Friday night.
