Alto runs over Overton, 47-6 ALTO — Overton got another drubbing from a District 20- A rival Friday, losing 47-6 at the hands of the two-time defending state champion Alto Yellowjackets. Mustang fans had to wait until the third quarter before they saw a gain on the scoreboard from Overton's first possession of the second half. Alto opened play and had just notched their 28th point. Marcuse "Pee Wee" Gasaway of the 'Jackets kicked to Overton and the ball was short, putting the Green Shirts on Alto's 47-yard-line. Quarterback Telvin Darden, on a keeper, found a crack in the yellow-and-black defense and forced Alto to retreat to its 34. Two plays later, Darden arched right and again ran for real estate at the 28. The Yellowjackets held Darden's next charge to only four yards, but it was enough for a Mustang first down. A facemask penalty on Alto surrendered turf to their 12-yard-line. The Mustangs charged three more times: to the 9 for no gain and to the 4. Overton called a time-out. Then they grouped in attack position. Darden called the signal, assigned Jacoba Gardner with the ball and Gardner broke into the end zone for six. The Mustang PAT attempt was unsuccessful. Overton came close to scoring in the first quarter with a campaign starting at their 49. Gardner picked up 5 yards. Darden next successfully passed to Jake King to Alto's 35. There were a few more yards taken by the Mustangs, but the 'Jackets yielded no more territory. After punting to Alto, Overton got an unexpected break from a bad Yellowjacket snap and resulting fumble turnover to the Mustangs on their 45. However, the 'Stangs could not push beyond their 47. It happened to be Alto's homecoming game. After Lacey Huddleston was crowned queen, she watched with 'Jacket fans her knights roll in the touchdowns. Gasaway, Javante Jones and D'Marcus Tyler scored the points, quarterbacked by Brandon Thacker. Rhett Gresham successfully kicked most of the PATs. Overton is 3-4 overall, having lost two straight to two of the state's best teams. The Mustangs are 1-2 in District 20-1A and hosts Grapeland this Friday.
