Cunyus to represent KHS at Yamboree

Callie Jo Cunyus Callie Jo Cunyus Callie Jo Cunyus will represent Kilgore High School at the coronation of the East Texas Yamboree's Queen Yam LXXI Stephanie Lynn Henson. The coronation will be presented in performances at the Gilmer Civic Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, and Thursday, Oct. 16.

The daughter of Bruce and Patti Cunyus, she is the granddaughter of George Cunyus of Kilgore and Viola Harken of Ackley, Iowa.

Cunyus is enrolled in AP classes, ranks number 13 of 281 students in her class, and is a Texas Scholar. She is also a member of the KHS Prom Committee, a Student Council representative, a KHS All- American Cheerleader, and a member of the Art Club.

She has played varsity tennis and soccer and was named to the All-District team in tennis.

At her church, Cunyus participates in Saturday Bread, Meals on Wheels, Hand Bells, and is a church presider and server.

She plans to attend Texas Christian University to major in architectural design or sports broadcasting/reporting.

Established in 1935, the Yamboree is one of the oldest festivals in Texas, having been held every year with the exception of three years during World War II. This year's three-day festival, Oct. 16-18, offers something for everyone, including two parades, the queen's coronation and pageant, a carnival on the square, contests for home canning, yam pie and livestock, a hobby and craft show, photography and art contests, an oldtime fiddlers' contest, a quilt show and more.
