LADONIA — Leverett's Chapel Lions finished their pre-district contest by spoiling the Fannindel Falcons homecoming, 68-48, on Friday night.

The Lions rolled to over 420 yards of offense, and held the Falcons to 307 total yards.

Hunter Hammontree, the Lions' quarterback, accounted for six touchdowns, two field goals and six extra points. He had a great offense night 260 total yards.

"Hammontree kicked the ball great," coach Matt Everett stated.

Hammontree's two field goals came in the first quarter. His first was a 35-yard kick and his second a 37-yarder that went high and cleared the post.

Hammontree passed for five touchdowns and ran for another. He first passed to Trevor Dean from the 21-yard line, which finished a two-play, 36-yard drive. He then connected with Kyle Youngblood from the 18 to finish a two-play, 35- yard drive. In the second half he connected twice again with Dean. His first was from the 12-yardline and again from the 3.

"Fannindel got after us," Everett said. "We just could not convert on offense during the first quarter. We kicked two field goals in the first quarter instead of (scoring) touchdowns.

"We let them hang around and they got some big plays. The second half we moved the ball up and down. ...We got points when we had to. I was real proud of these kids."

Dean had six touchdowns: four receiving and two rushing. Kyle Youngblood also received a pass from Hammontree to score. Youngblood's touchdown came with 6:51 left in the second quarter. His 18-yard reception finished a two play, 35-yard drive.

The victory over Fannindel was the final nondistrict game the Lions will play this season. From here on out, all the contests are six-man Division II District 15 games, beginning Friday night here against Iredell, a 7:30 p.m. start. Iredell's Dragons, coached by Don Coffell, finished 8-4 last season and 3-1 in district play.

LC has had a good non-district run, losing just one game (to Avalon) and having one (Greenville Christian) canceled due to the weather off of Hurricane Ike. The Lions are 4-1 this season.
